Vox pops: Youth on Caster Semenya

The win and subsequent “gender test” of Caster Semenya resulted in widespread media debates.
One noteworthy aspect was the use of images, first of the athletic Semenya, and then of her
alongside other athletes, both male and female, who had faced gender testing in the past. Fairly soon
fter the topic burst onto the media scene, YOU magazine showed a different image of Caster Semenya,
one in which she was shown dressed in typically feminine clothes and poses. in Johannesburg were asked to look at two images – one of the YOU Magazine cover and the other of posters printed and distributed by City Press to welcome Semenya home – and comment on the as well as share their thoughts on media’s coverage of women in sports
