As part of the Gender Links media literacy programme’s regional
rollout, the Gender and Gender and Media Southern Africa Network
Namibia (GEMSANaM) held the first ever Gender and Media Literacy
Pilot Project in Namibia in May-August 2008. Focusing on learners,
the media literacy course aimed to improve skills in analysing
media content, style, sourcing, stereotyping. Based on a local
adaptation of the GL media literacy toolkit Watching the Watchdogs,
throughout the 10-Module course learners monitored various
newspapers, magazines, radio, and television newscasts, and
then presented findings to selected media houses.
