This chapter describes the role of media in constructing understandings of fatherhood. The media is assumed to have a pivotal role in the circulation and mediation of attitudes and perceptions, and it is noted that in South African media, men are seldom portrayed as fathers. This is in distinction to women who are protrayed as mothers.
