Mauritius: Story of Karina

My name is Karina and I am 27 years old. I have two lovely daughters and my daily routine revolves around them. I love doing pastries for my daughters and I realised that I can make this as a business to gain money. I have never worked in this field but I would like to learn first and them embark on a business. Since I got married, I always depended on my husband to cater for my needs. But it has not always been rosy. Sometimes, I sit back to think that I cannot always depend on someone financially.

If I could take up a job or start a business, I can have my own money and buy things for me and for my daughters. I want to be independent. I am soon going to follow a course on pastry making and I got this ‘push’ after doing the training with Gender Links where I understood my self-worth and I gained back confidence in myself. I always thought that I was weak but now I know for a fact that I am strong, I can move forward in life and do something that I love which is making pastries. Had I not followed this training, I would have always thought that I am worthless
