New York, 10 March: At a high level session on the first day of the Commission on the Status of Women yesterday, delegates gathered to highlight the critical need for Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) at all levels of public life. Kate Gilmore of UNFPA, emphasised the need for a stand-alone target and indicator for sex education in the post 2015 development framework, since ignorance and misunderstanding around gender and sexual reproductive health rights remain major hurdles, ultimately costing women and girls their lives. Gilmore asked, “Why is it taking so long for adults in power around the world to ‘grow up’ about introducing sexuality education.”
