Gender Links, (GL) a dynamic Southern African NGO based in Johannesburg, promoting gender equality and justice, seeks the services of an experienced, skilled, highly motivated and committed Project Officer for the #VoiceandChoice: Diversity and Inclusion in Southern Africa programme involving the management of grants to LGBTQI organisations in Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mauritius and Namibia.The post is based in Mauritius.

Background:

The project, which is funded by the EU, aims to strengthen LGBTQI organisations in five Southern African countries to create safe spaces for, and support LGBTQI persons; strengthen movement building; challenge prevailing attitudes and norms as well as prepare the ground for legislative and policy changes.

Key responsibilities:

Reporting to the Programme Manager, the project officer will be required to:

  • Support the Programme Manager in planning, coordination, and implementation of project requirements.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support, including arranging meetings, taking minutes, and following up on action points.
  • Assist in drafting quarterly reports, annual reports, and other documentation for EU donor, partners and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate logistical arrangements such as travel bookings, event planning, and procurement of supplies.
  • Managing administrative and logistical aspects of training activities.
  • Organising both in-person and online training courses, seminars, and conferences.
  • Providing administrative and e-learning support to experts and project leaders.
  • Assisting in contract preparation and coordination.
  • Tracking project progress and overseeing budgets.
  • Supporting experts in project delivery.
  • Maintaining business relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for project organisation.
  • Manage calendars and scheduling for programme activities and stakeholder meetings.
  • Support the implementation of the communication strategy for internal and external audiences.
  • Conduct research and data analysis to support programme monitoring and evaluation.
  • Maintain organised document management systems for programme documents.
  • Assist with project communications, including e-mails, social media, website updates, press releases, and other communications-related tasks as assigned.
  • Assist in managing the project work plan and budget.
  • Foster the growth and development of strong LGBTQI organisations and networks through strategic litigation, linking, learning and programme synergies.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Fluency in English; a second internationally recognised language would be an advantage.
  • Track record of working in the LGBTQI sector in Southern Africa
  • Experience with working with EU funded projects will be an advantage.
  • Drivers licence

Experience:

  • At least two years of experience in Programme administration, coordination in the NGO sector.
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and document preparation.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and event coordination.
  • Experience in communications, including social media management, and website content updates.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership, organisational, team and project management skills.
  • A track record of securing funds and in supporting resource mobilisation
  • Proficiency in grant management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.

Conditions

The contract will be for an initial period of one year. The offer will be subject to three months’ probation.  The successful candidate will be based in Mauritius. Having a valid residence or work permit in Mauritius will be an advantage. The successful candidate will be periodically required to travel.  GL will offer a highly competitive remuneration package, commensurate with the skills and experience.
