Johannesburg, 7 June: Gender Links South Africa is undertaking Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Conflict Management workshops in partnership with different municipalities in the country. The focus is on involvement of men in preventing GBV. The workshops are also engaging men to look into how men can assist in breaking gender stereotypes.
Gender Links Local Action for Gender Justice South Africa Facilitator, Naledi Masipa, says “We recognise the importance of incorporating men in fighting gender based violence. The workshops have really been fruitful . Men are sharing strategies on how we can together prevent gender based violence. There are still some gaps in relation to gender attitudes and we still have much to do in closing these gap.”
The workshops have so far taken place in partnershi with the City of Johannesburg; Emfuleni Municipality; Midvaal Council; Vhembe District Council; Molemole Local Municipality; Capricorn District Municipality; Blouberg Municipality and Lepelle-Nkumpi Municipality. GL has also engaged men from Vlakfontein and Orange Farm in this initiative.
