Southern African Trust (SAT) Ukhamba Giving Event raises over R80 000

The Gender Links Empower Women, End Violence programme is one of the four beneficiaries of the 2016 Southern African Trust (SAT) Ukhamba Giving Event. The event which took place on Saturday 27 August raised R83 000 which will be shared amongst the four beneficiaries; Gender Links, Bethany House Boitumelo Community Organisation and Lets us Grow. The event was attended by guest from both the civil and public sector.

Speaking at the giving event the executive director of SAT Dr Bheki Moyo, explained that this was their third giving event and reported back on previous donations. Gender Links Chief Executive Colleen Lowe Morna spoke on the need to support women’s empowerment organisations. Leonie van der Merwe Director: Gender, Youth and Disability Mainstreaming from the Office of the MEC, Gauteng Department of Social Development stood in for the MEC Mrs Nandi Mayathula-Khoza and spoke sincerely about the problems of women and girls in in the South African society.

Executive Director of Maths Centre Incorporating Sciences, Sharanjeet Shan inspired the audience with her talk on women’s liberation and her own personal journey from honour killing and a forced marriage to liberation, an illustrious career in Maths and Science and the joy of her granddaughter.
