South African Child Gauge 2014: Preventing violence against children: From policies and plans to implementation

This brief is based on the South African Child Gauge 2014 and draws on the work of various authors who contributed to the Child Gauge 2014. Children continue to experience high levels of violence in their homes, schools and communities. The Child Gauge showcases programmes that are proving effective in preventing violence. The key recommendations are included in this brief.

Gender and food security: In Brief

This In Brief argues that tackling gender injustice and truly empowering women is not only a fundamental prerequisite for improving food and nutrition security. It needs to be seen as a goal in its own right. In Brief sets out a preliminary vision for gender-just food and nutrition security, which puts the right to food and gender justice at the centre of all interventions. Two case studies, produced collaboratively with food security actors, provide inspiring examples of gender-transformative interventions in India and among Maya Chorti communities.

Good questions on technology-related violence

Between April 2013 and June 2014, the Association for Progressive Communications (APC) carried out its multi-country research exploring the adequacy and effectiveness of domestic legal remedies and corporate policies/redress mechanisms to address the issue of technology-related violence against women (VAW). This paper draws on the final research reports from that project, and highlights some of the main findings of the research papers.

This pamphlet provides advice on ten ways to be a better father. It includes respecting the mother of your child, spending time with the child an teaching the child.

Gender and the media: Zambia

Over the past seven years there has been a marginal increase of one percentage point in the proportion of women sources in the news in Zambia from 13% in the 2003 Gender and Media Baseline Study (GMBS) to 14% in the Gender and Media Progress Study (GMPS).

This pamphlet also contains a summary of the study on glass ceilings in the media.
