Phenomenal Fathers

Windhoek, 15 juin: Mon père a perdu le sien Á  l’âge tendre de 12 ans et c’est feu ma grand-mère qui l’a élevé, de même que ses frères. Etant l’aîné, il a subi énormément de pressions mais il est parvenu Á  relever le défi. Après ses heures de classe, il travaillait pour contribuer aux dépenses familiales et permettre Á  ses frères et sÅ“urs d’être scolarisés. Lorsque je fais un retour en arrière et que je pense Á  mes 12 ans, je ne peux pas m’imaginer faisant des choses aussi remarquables. C’est une des raisons pour lesquelles je l’appelle Surhomme.

Gaborone, 15 June: Life does not bless everyone with a great father. As father’s day approaches and as the memories flood back, I realise that I was blessed with a father who left an indelible mark on me. My father taught me to walk the talk and what it means to live an unwavering life.

Life does not bless everyone with a great father. As father’s day approaches and as the memories flood back, I realise that I was blessed with a father who left an indelible mark on me. My father taught me to walk the talk and what it means to live an unwavering life.

According to findings published by the UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS) in September 2013, although laudable, only 74% of the African youth, will be literate by 2015. The study also finds that out of the 148 countries surveyed, the lowest performers in youth literacy rates are countries found in Sub-Saharan Africa. The global youth illiterate population is over 123 million, of which 61% are girls.

Johannesburg, 11 July: What would Nelson Mandela say if he knew of the unseemly family feud raging outside his hospital room? Being the wise and reflective leader that he is, he would probably rue the fact that he has not bequeathed his family the peace and unity that he has bestowed South Africa. He would remind us, as he has repeatedly, that he is no saint. As we reflect on Mandela’s legacy, he would ask us to learn from his greatness, and from his human failings.

Yet, as I read through the various accounts of Nelson Mandela’s life, I find only one interview that has dared to be brutally honest about his fallibility. Following his release from jail in 1994, Mandela’s late first wife Evelyn Mase commented: “How can a man who committed adultery and left his wife and children be Christ? The whole world worships Nelson too much. He is only a man.À

Johannesburg, 8 juillet : Que dirait Nelson Mandela s’il apprenait l’existence de l’inconvenante querelle familiale qui fait rage Á  l’extérieur de sa chambre d’hôpital ? En tant que leader sage et pondéré qu’il est, il aurait probablement regretté de n’avoir pas légué Á  sa famille la paix et l’unité qu’il a conférées Á  l’Afrique du Sud. Il aurait rappelé comme il l’a maintes fois répété qu’il n’est pas un saint. Alors que nous réfléchissons sur l’héritage de Nelson Mandela, il nous aurait demandé de tirer des leçons de sa grandeur et de ses faiblesses humaines.

J’ai beaucoup entendu parler de la relation entre un père et sa fille et lu plusieurs écrits Á  ce sujet. Des mots « admiration », « complicité », « amour », etc. ont souvent été évoqués dans ces documents. En examinant de près le rapport qui m’a toujours lié Á  mon père, je me rends bien compte qu’il a réellement influencé ma personnalité. Négativement ou positivement, il a marqué ma vie et mon père est et restera une source d’inspiration pour moi.

Mon nom est Zotonantenaina RAZANADRATEFA. J’ai 27 ans et je suis marié Á  Jeanne Edmée Soharinirina. Nous nous connaissons depuis que nous sommes Á  l’université de Toamasine. C’est en 2007 que nous avons décidé d’avoir un enfant. Un garçon ou une fille, cela nous importait peu. En 2009, nous avons vécu un drame. Jeanne Edmée a été clouée au lit pendant 11 mois en raison d’une maladie non-identifiée, même si nous avons consulté tous les grands hôpitaux de la Grande Ile.
