The International Women’s day was celebrated on Friday of 8th March. Women have greatly contributed to the social progression of our country. This has been proved by the fact that the number of women being in the political arena have increased from 3% to 30%. Anooradah Poorun , the President of the NGO ,A.P.E.D.E.D appreciates the work that is being done by various N.G.O’s where women are being empowered in the entrepreneurship sector.

On the March 8, 2013, the world celebrated Women’s day. Where is Mauritius situated when it talks about the emancipation of the latter in the economic empowerment ? Besides getting hired in areas reserved exclusively for men in the past era, Mauritian women occupy more positions which have high status. However, the transition is perceived to be very slow.

While there is still much to do to achieve a state of equality between the both sexes there are significant progress that deserve to be underlined. If women, in Mauritius, have conquered the last few decades, the right to work, there were still areas reserved for men, such as trades or construction.
The Prodesign firm specialized in design and engineering shows how they are offering equal positions to women and not only to graduates of electrical and mechanical.

Sarah (fictitious name) going through agonizing moments. Aged 22, she declares that she had been the victim of a rape. It happened a Saturday in the vicinity of Bagatelle during the day. The police are actively enquiring. “I will commit suicide” cries Sara. Since Saturday, this “student nurse” from Rodrigues island is living with worries. She claimed to have been taken to Bagatelle during the day and has been victim of sexual assault. Was it a rendezvous that have taken a nasty turn? It is the riddle that is trying to resolve the police of Moka. This “student nurse” that resides in the high Plaines-Wilhems, explained that she was waiting for the bus around 16 o’clock, when an individual grabbed her and took her in a bush. After satisfying his sexual urges, the man let her go. The alleged victim has been examined by a doctor on the same day.
