KEY FACTS

  • The Violence Against Women Baseline Study has now been conducted in six SADC countries including Lesotho (Botswana, Mauritius, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe).
  • About 3358 citizens were interviewed during the VAW Baseline research.
  • Preliminary findings show that 86% of women in Lesotho have experienced some form of GBV in their lifetime while 41% of men admitted perpetration.
  • Intimate partner violence is the predominant form of violence with 69% women reporting experience and 41% men admitting perpetration.
  • The proportion of men perpetrating rape is higher (16%) than the proportion of women reporting rape (8%).
  • Lesotho has implemented a National Action Plan to End Gender Based Violence
