The first ever Mauritius SADC Gender Protocol Summit closed at Gold Crest Hotel in Quatre Bornes on March 26 2013, with resounding shouts of – “2015, Yes we Must! The SADC Gender Protocol at Work. The best ever National Summit we have attended”.
The String Chamber Orchestra gave the event its “grandiose” and some people had tears in their eyes listening to the live music.
Ten women and six men received awards in a variety of theme, local government and media categories (see Annex A). The summit featured fifty-three (63) entries in categories including Gender, Gender Based Violence and Conflict Resolution; Education and Economic Development; Climate Change; Sexual and Reproductive Health, HIV/Aids and Constitutional, legal rights and governance. Other presentations covered institutional Centres of Excellence (COEs) and Leadership.
