Tanzania’s first ever SADC Gender Protocol Summit closed on a high note at Dar es Salaam’s Blue Pearl Hotel on March 27 2013 with participants urging stakeholders to start thinking beyond 2015. This summit was significant in that it sought to create visibility for local level initiatives towards achieving the 28 targets of the SADC Protocol on Gender and development.
Under the banner 2015 Yes we Must! The SADC Gender Protocol @ Work, the conference brought together 84 participants from media,non-governmental organisations (NGOs), activists, Faith Based Organisations (FBOs) and representatives of the Ministry of Community Development Gender and Children as well as representatives from the United Nations Education and Scientific Organisation (UNESCO).
