Addressing Gender-Based Violence and HIV/AIDS

World AIDS Day: Southern Africa remains the epicentre of HIV. Gender-based violence has been identified as a significant driver of HIV infections across the region, and international organisations are increasingly focusing on the elimination of violence against women as a key area in reducing infections. Prevention strategies need to address the unequal power between men and women, and norms and practices that make women more vulnerable to HIV.
