Women are still underrepresented in in corporate South Africa, despite making up just more than half the population, according to the Women in Leadership Census 2012 released this week by the Business Women’ s Association South Africa (Basa). According to the census, only 3.6% of CEOs, 17.1% of directors and 505% of board chairs are female. A senior governance specialist at the Institute for Directors in Southern Africa (IoDSA), Parmi Natesan, said while these figures a slight advance on the 2011 statistics, it was clear that South Africa companies still have a long way to go when it comes to gender diversity.
