Veteran police officer Sharon Japhta will today take up the position of deputy provincial commissioner of Western Cape police.
Japhta, who was recently promoted from brigadier to major general, began police service 30 years ago at the age of 19. She was a member of the first group of coloured women to be taken into the service.
She said her priorities would include focusing on drugs, liquor and firearms because these contributed to serious crimes. Highlighting and fighting crimes against women and children where also a prime importance to her.
