Invitation to our Giving Event on 27 August

The Ukhamba giving event serves as a platform where philanthropists from all walks of life are invited to hear “pitches” or presentations from selected organisations requiring funding for a social change project.  Gender Links is very pleased to be selected as one of the four beneficiaries of the event arranged by the Southern Africa Trust.  The event takes place at the lovely Gender Links Cottages in Gill Street, Observatory where you will be entertained, fed and requested to pledge any amount towards the services of any one of the organisations – of course we hope you will choose Gender Links.

We wish to raise funds specifically for our Entrepreneurship Programme which provides real business skills to women who are survivors of gender based violence  so they have the independence to make the best choices for themselves and their families.  85% of the women exposed to this programme experienced less gender based violence after the programme and 66% were able to set up profitable businesses as a result of the entrepreneurship training. Overall in the first year of this project an average participating women made R529 profit per month and in total  all the women turned over R10 million. For first-hand accounts of the participants, click here.

The sustainability of the Entrepreneurship programme it ensured by anchoring it within  local councils who provide support, mentorship, access to finance and infrastructure.
