From 28 November to 9 December 2011, the United Nation hosted the 17th Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP 17) in Durban, South Africa. The Gender and Media Diversity Centre (GMDC) of Gender Links (GL) through its Opinion and Commentary Service and seminars project embarked in various activities aimed at supporting activities undertaken during the conference. The GMDC undertook these activities in partnership with African Woman and Child Feature Service (AWCFS). Funding from Diakonia made these initiatives possible.

GL and AWCFS have produced hard copy and e-newspapers, and run online chats or cyber dialogues at several the global UN conferences to ensure that ordinary citizens, particularly from Africa, have the opportunity to engage with and contribute to the proceedings of these conferences.
