There has been a marginal increase of one percentage point in the proportion of women sources in the news in South Africa from 19% in the 2003 Gender and Media Baseline Study (GMBS) to 20% in the Gender and Media Progress Study (GMPS).
This is a percentage point higher than the regional average of 19%, but lower that the global average in the 2010 Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) of 24%. There are, however, variations between individual media houses from Kaya FM at 29% and to Business Day and The Citizen at 13% each.
