The African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), continental Africa’s premier capacity building institution, was established on 9 February 1991 as a response to the severity of Africa’s capacity needs and the challenge of investing in indeginous human capital and institutions in sub-Saharan Africa. The current membership comprises the three sponsoring multilateral agencies – the African Development Bank (AfDB), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the World Bank – the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and 41 African and non-African countries and institutions.

ACBF is also emerging as an internationally recognised knowledge-based organization encouraging the growth of knowledge economies in Africa. It promotes knowledge generation, sharing, and dissemination activities through its knowledge networks and programs.
