The second gender justice and local government summit aims to bring together local government councillors and officials, relevant government ministries, NGOs and other interested groups that work with local government authorities from the region. The summit will feature awards on good practices in ending gender violence, provide an opportunity to document and disseminate these good practices as well as give incentives to local authorities to innovate new and effective strategies for combating violence against women.
The summit and awards led to the Centres of Excellence for Gender Mainstreaming in Local Government concept to support 100 Councils in the region in developing gender action plans with flagship programmes to end gender violence.
