SADC Member States get into high gear towards implementing the 2008 SADC Protocol on Gender and Development following signing by 13 and ratification by nine Member States. This means that the SADC Gender Protocol is in full force even though technically two out of the nine countries still need to deposit their instruments of ratification .

The SADC Gender Unit working with a technical partner Gender Links and independent consultants are working with Member States to operationalise the SADC Gender Protocol at national level. Various components have been brought together by a model developed by Gender Links to assist countries work in a coordinated way that ensures value for money.
