Description: Maseru-Prime Minister Mr. Tom Thabane and some cabinet ministers yesterday came face-to-face with harsh evidence of gender based violence. A young woman who was recently raped in Thaba-Tseka was among hundreds of women protestants who gathered at the Moshoeshoe 1 Statue Parkin Maseru to present a petition to Thabane, calling on government to step-up efforts to end women and child abuse. The women had marched from Manthabiseng National Convention CentreThabane said he was shocked by the case of a young woman pictured who was holding a small placard written: “It is not true that dress code can cause woman to be abused” She is now pregnant as a result of the rape. Thabane told the gathering he was “too shaken” and ordered ministers present to “immediately” attend to the young woman’s case.
