Government says it has employed the Malawi Growth & Development Strategy as the overarching operational medium term tool to realise the vision 2020. But economist Collen Kaluwa said some targets are bound to be missed due to the sliding back of the country’s economy.

With only nine years to go, government is yet to make Malawi a God-fearing nation, secure, democratically mature, environmentally sustainable, selfreliant with equal opportunities for and active participation by all, having social services, vibrant cultural and religious values and technologically driven middle-income economy as envisioned in the 2020 mission statement.
