Launches of the SADC Gender Protocol 2010 Barometer

GL and Alliance partners launched the regional Gender Protocol 2010 Barometer in 11 countries, 10 within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, as well as in New York during the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) annual meeting. Three regional launches took place: in Namibia during the Heads of States Summit; in Botswana at the SADC HQ with the SADC Executive Secretary in attendance, and in Pretoria ahead of the beginning of the Sixteen Days of Activism Campaign. Four countries launched country Barometer reports during the launch of the regional Barometer: namely Botswana, Mauritius, Malawi and Madagascar. A total of 408 attended the launches, 282 female and 141 male.

Alliance caucus meetings preceded the launches in-country to: 1) get a better understanding and appreciation of the Alliance network at in country level; 2) strengthen and support in country activities and 3) to review, discuss and strategise around the country Barometer report and 4) to finalise 2010 reports before updating for the 2011 country reports.
