Mauritius Barometer 2013: Chapter 2 Governance

Key points

• With an SGDI score 35% for governance, Mauritius moves from position 13 to position 10 due to increased women’s representation in local government although it still lags behinds in women in parliament.
• Citizens scored the country better at 66% according to the CSC, a 7% point improvement over 2012 figures.
• Women’s representation in parliament is a low 19%.
• In terms of women representation in local government Mauritius does a big leap from 6.4% to 26%.
• It is imperative to train women potential candidates across all political parties to encourage them to stand as candidates for the 2015 general elections.
