With an SGDI score 35% for governance, Mauritius moves from position 13 to position 10 due to increased women’s representation in local government although it still lags behinds in women in parliament.
Citizens scored the country better at 66% according to the CSC, a 7% point improvement over 2012 figures.
Women’s representation in parliament is a low 19%.
In terms of women representation in local government Mauritius does a big leap from 6.4% to 26%.
It is imperative to train women potential candidates across all political parties to encourage them to stand as candidates for the 2015 general elections.
