This report provides an analysis of documents, interviews, lecture observation and student focus groups conducted at the University of Mauritius Communications Unit in October 2009. It forms part of the Gender In Media Education in Southern Africa (GIME): the most comprehensive study yet undertaken of the gender dimensions of journalism and media education and training in tertiary institutions in Southern Africa.

For this research, a total of 31 individuals were interviewed, comprising three staff, one male and two females, and 28 students: three quarters of whom were female. Overall, 71% of respondents were female while 29% were male.
