Gender in the newsroom was  hot debate during the media practice and training session on the second day of the GEM Summit in Johannesburg, .     According to one male participant, female journalists in Southern Africa are left behind when it comes to promotions because they refuse to carry out challenging work like carrying cameras, preferring to do light duties.
