Cultural practices and traditional beliefs have disadvantaged women, particularly when they see marriage as their source of livelihood, said Joyce Nonde- Simukoko, the president of the Federation of Free Trade Unions of Zambia (FFTUZ).

Many Zambian women have low levels of education and are unaware of their human rights, making them vulnerable to high levels of discrimination and gender-based Violence (GBV) said Nonde- Simukoko who was presenting a paper on “Women’s economic empowerment and ending genderbased violenceÀ during the SADC Gender Protocol Summit held in Lusaka in March.
