Sixteen Days Monitoring 2004:South Africa Report

This report is the second in a series of quarterly “Mirror on the Media” surveys being carried out by the South African Gender and Media (SAGEM) Network. It covers monitoring conducted over two phases during November and December 2004, the first phase took place before the Sixteen Days of Activism Campaign and the second phase was conducted for the duration of the campaign.

The study shows that the media still tends to marginalise gender violence stories, although the number of gender violence stories increased marginally over the campaign period they still only constituted a very small percentage of the news.
