Dr Renaud Ng Man Sun, HIV/AIDS expert and coordinator of the National AIDS Unit, was interviewed and he described how HIV is spreading in Mauritius.

Trainer’s Notes: The interview illustrates a missed opportunity to mainstream gender in HIV coverage.  Despite the interviewer being a woman, the article fails to deal with the gender dimensions of the HIV epidemic.
Discussion Questions
1. For each of the questions asked, discuss what the gender dimensions of the issue are.
2. How can publications, journalists be made more aware of gender mainstreaming?

Training Exercises
1. Have participants draft new questions for the intreview. They can then role play an interview where questions about HIV and gender are asked.
