Tutume Sub-district is the largest sub-region within the Central District, occupying a landmass of 43.487km ².  The village of Tutume is  the sub district headquarters and is a large Bakalanga village located in the Central District of Botswana, about 50 km from the Zimbabwe border gate at Maitengwe.  The area was named after the river “Tutume”, in Kalanga that is “gwizi ngo tutuma”, meaning that the river was overflowing. Historically, farming is the economic base of the district, including crop production, livestock keeping and hunting.Read the Institutional profile
