United Kingdom: Women only carriages idea causes stir
Female only carriages as a way of curbing violence against women is receiving mixed feelings in the United Kingdom. This comes after Jeremy Corbyn a labour leadership contender raised the possibility of women only carriages if he consults with women first. Some welcome the suggestion while others say this “isolation” is not a holistic approach as it is retrogressive. Critics call for a society wide approach that includes policing and awareness raising. Will women only carriages, women only villages and other women only initiatives would be an effective strategy to combat violence against women in public spaces.
