Description:
The International Women’s day was celebrated on Friday of 8th March. Women have greatly contributed to the social progression of our country. This has been proved by the fact that the number of women being in the political arena have increased from 3% to 30%. Anooradah Poorun , the President of the NGO ,A.P.E.D.E.D appreciates the work that is being done by various N.G.O’s where women are being empowered in the entrepreneurship sector. Women are working in different sectors and they have been proved to be serious challengers to men.
Nowadays the positions that were previously set aside for men are being filled by women. Today in Mauritius it is common to see women as fire fighters, police officers, bus conductors or even in the construction sector. Ambal Jeanne , director of SOS Women states that women play a big role in the good advancement and development of our country. The latter has also revealed that women do much better than men.
However not everyone sees women from the same angle. Denise Laroulette aged 85 years old, said that in the past women were very patient but modern women want to be independent and also they want to assume so many responsibilities at such tender age.
