Key points

  • Zambia’s SGDI score on media is 63%, seven percent lower than the citizen’s score of 70% that is based on perceptions.
  • Josephine Mapoma is the Director General for the newly formed Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA).
  • Gender Links (GL) is working with six gender and media Centres of Excellence (COEs) in Zambia.
  • Zambia has registered significant increases in media house scores from a baseline of 59% in 2012 to 69% in 2013.
  • Three institutions, Zambia Institute of Mass Communication (ZAMCON), Evelyn Hone College (EHC) and University of Zambia (UNZA) participated in the gender in media education research conducted by the Gender and Media Diversity Centre (GMDC) of Gender Links in 2010.
  • One journalism and media training institution, ZAMCOM has participated in the training of trainers to mainstream gender in journalism and media curriculum.
