In 2006 GEMSA launched the Care Work Campaign in the Southern African region documenting the Real Work, Real Pay project to show case the plight and burden of care that care workers face; the documented case study show cased care workers in Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho and South Africa.
The DVD case study was launched at the 53rd Commission on the Status of Women in New York, in 2009 with much success. Care workers, participants and partners at CSW 53 found the DVD very comprehensive and evident to the issues raised over the gender justice issue of women working in the care giving sector without recognition, remuneration, psychosocial support and government funding to sustain the projects in their communities.
The case study is attached in three parts-to view click the links.
