Gender and Media Southern Africa (GEMSA) Network has undertaken an audit of 12 country policies on care work represented in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) as a follow up to an advocacy campaign that resulted in provisions for the “appropriate recognition” of care work by the SADC governments. These provisions are contained in the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development, adopted by Heads of State in August 2008 (where twothirds of the SADC heads of state signed a protocol which was designed to ensure gender equality in every sphere of life).
