Description
The Gender and Media Progress Study (GMPS) took place in Botswana from 19 October to the 16 November 2009, covering seven media houses and 879 news items. The study is part of a regional survey that covered 14 countries in Southern Africa and 33 431 news items.
It is a follow-up to the Gender and Media Baseline Study (GMBS) conducted in 2003, as well as the HIV and AIDS and Gender Baseline Study (2006) and theFrancophone Gender, HIV and AIDS and Media Study (2008). Comparisons are also made where relevant to the Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) that has been conducted every five years since the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, with the fourth such study conducted parallel to this regional study in 2010.
