This chapter will move beyond general media practice to an analysis of gender issues and women’s representation
within media content in Southern Africa. The 2010 Gender and Media Progress Study (GMPS) revealed that women constituted 19% of news sources in the SADC region, the same figure recorded in the 2010 Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP). The GMPS figure showed a negligible two percentage point increase from 17% recorded on this indicator in the 2003 Gender and Media Baseline Study (GMBS).
