Description
During the month of June 2009, Gender Links conducted research (Zambia Barometer Report) on the SADC Gender Protocol in Zambia to track progress and strategies around future lobbying and advocacy efforts targeted at national governments and regional bodies. The findings of the study will be used to advance the achievement of gender equality in the SADC region as stated in the Protocol.
As a tracking tool, the Barometer will benefit governments, civil society and citizens. The governments will be able to use the Barometer as a tool to measure their own delivery on the commitments they made regarding gender, and ultimately enable them to measure their own progress towards achieving gender equality by 2015 (as envisaged in their own governments that committed to advancing gender equality locally and at regional level). Citizens will also be empowered to actively participate in holding their own governments to account and deliver on the instruments.
