Arusha, 5 August – The program refers to gender violence that has been happening in Mto wa mbu, at Monduli district which is in Arusha Region. This documentary aims to disclose sexual violence that has been committed against women and girls of Mto wa Mbu.
The women and girls living in these areas have been abused and some killed, by unknown perpetrators. About eight women have been killed and then their dead bodies thrown into the barracks since January 2018.
The story’s aim was to raise awareness so that the local government, NGOs and government, police officer take action to help on solving the problem so that the woman and girls can live their lives freely and work without fear.
This is an unfortunate example of women’s rights infringement through sexual violence and femicide. The Millennium goals strongly promote gender equality and this is the voice of women needs to be heard so that the abuse and violence against women and girls in Mto wambu should end.
The country of Tanzania must work together to fight for the protection of the rights of women and the rules and policies to protect the girl need to be renewed, to ensure a safe future for the next generation of women.
