Brief Council Description

Zibagwe Rural district is in the Midlands Province and comprises of 33 Wards under 878 143 hectares of land. It constitutes of areas outside the City of Kwekwe and the Municipality of Redcliff and thus is primarily rural. It was born after the amalgamation of Mashambazhou District Council and Kwekwe Rural Council in July 1993. Three administration zones namely, Zhombe Communal, Silobela Communal and Kwekwe Rural make up the area under its jurisdiction. The latter covers the resettlement areas making up the peripherals of Kwekwe City Council and Redcliff Municipality. Zibagwe has a population of 174 727 comprising 86 698 males, and 88 029 females and has 37 305 households. The council is a Hub council for Midlands province rural councils. Currently, the council in partnership with Gender Links is implementing the Promoting Gender Inclusive Local Economic Development Project in Zimbabwe to promote Local Economic Development through the use of clean energy, biogas in particular.
