GL cascaded the GBV Indicators Project in South Africa to the Western Cape from May 2011. About two in every five women (44.8%) experienced while 37.0% men have perpetrated GBV in their lifetime in Western Cape Province. The most common form of violence is intimate partner violence. Only one in forty of the women were physically abused and reported the incidents to the police. A marginal 2% of women were raped and reported incident to police in lifetime Less than one percent of women were raped and sought medical attention as a result.
