GL has worked with media regulatory authorities in the region to mainstream gender in their codes of conduct and practice.

The objective is to provide support to regulatory authorities in developing gender policies and mainstreaming gender in media regulation.  To date GL has worked with  the Press Council of Botswana (PCB), the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), the Association of Advertising Agencies of Mauritius, the Media Council of Tanzania, the High Authority of the Media (DRC) and the Media Council of Malawi to develop gender codes of ethics. See draft codes and policies below.

In 2010, GL organised a roundtable of media regulatory bodies on media provisions of the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development and gave follow up support to them in developing gender codes of ethics that incorporate the provisions of the Protocol. GL work with regulatory authorities is linked to the work it is doing with media houses in the Soutern African region in helping them to develop gender policies that cover work place and editorial issues.
