- Making a difference
In early 2001, GL joined with Women’s Net and two independent contractors to successfully bid for a project commissioned by the Department of Communications in South Africa on engendering broadcast legislation.
This involved a desk- top review of existing legislation, case studies of media houses and their gender-related practices, amongst the materials reviewed were:
Case study on Radio Islam [pdf format 55KB]
Focus groups on public perceptions of gender content in TV programming. [pdf format 57KB]
A number of recommendations have been put forward for ensuring that women and men in all their diversity have equal say on the airwaves.
