Over the years Gender Links has provided training for hundreds of journalists in short courses conducted in partnership with media training institutions around various themes. These include covering gender violence; HIV and AIDS; SRHRgender, media and elections as well as the Business Unusual – Gender and the Economy series.

This training usually takes the form of a one week course with input by specialists on the content; field work; the production of supplements and or TV and radio programmes that are then reviewed as part of the training. In election work, GL has also found direct training in newsrooms to be an effective way of delivering media training. Going forward, GL media training is focusing on the media Centres of Excellence. Newsroom training will coincide with topical themes like elections and the budget and focus on actual content being produced by participating media houses. Stories produced will be show cased at the Gender and Media Summit that takes place every two years.
