Gender and Media Diversity Centre Manager

Gender Links, a Southern African NGO with regional offices in Johannesburg specialising in gender, media, women’s rights and governance, seeks the services of an experienced individual to manage the Gender and Media Diversity Centre (www.gmdc.org.za).

Based in Johannesburg, the incumbent will be expected to develop a strategy and action plan to build and sustain this partnership between gender and media networks, media training institutions, and media development NGOs.

Key performance areas

  • Manage the Gender and Media Diversity Centre including fund raising for its programmes and sustainability, liaising with partners and the advisory group; growing the user and partnership base; running monthly seminars on topical issues and running an internship programme.
  • Taking forward work on mainstreaming gender in media education.
  • Managing media literacy training programmes across Southern Africa in partnership with media NGOs and knowledge institutions.
  • Gathering entries for the SADC Gender Protocol@Work summit.
  • Managing, editing and producing the biannual Gender and Media Diversity Journal.

Skills and requirements

  • Master’s degree in media studies; at least five years media training experience.
  • Proven interest and or qualifications or experience in gender and media work.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Use of IT for advancing collecting, connecting and collaboration.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of the SADC region will be an advantage.
