Lesotho Gender and Local Government Country Facilitator

Gender Links, a Southern African NGO based in Johannesburg specialising in gender, media, women’s rights and governance, seeks the services of an experienced individual to serve as a country facilitator for its gender justice and local government programme in Lesotho. The main task of the incumbent, who will be based in Maseru, will be to work with local councils, partners and stakeholders to support the Centres of Excellence for Gender Mainstreaming in Local Government initiative.

Tasks:

  • Receive training in and serve as local country facilitator for local government, gender and gender based violence (GBV) work;
  • Plan, coordinate and facilitate meetings and training workshops for local councils;
  • Assist local councils in the development of gender and GBV action plans;
  • Provide backstopping and ongoing support to local councils;
  • Collect best practices in ending gender violence for the Gender Justice and Local Government Summit and Awards;
  • Draft and manage activity-based budgets;
  • Monitor and evaluate the success of the country programme;
  • Regular networking and interaction with local organisations and development partners;

Skills:

  • Familiarity with general gender equality situation in Lesotho;
  • Social science academic qualification or relevant work experience;
  • A strong grounding in community work or work at the local government level;
  • Strong networking skills, ability to organise and mobilise at the local government level;
  • Good training, facilitation, management and report writing skills;
  • Good administrative and inter personal skills;
  • IT proficiency;
  • Flexibility to travel regularly and extensively in country;
  • At least five years working experience;
  • Proficiency in local languages would be an advantage;
  • A background in NGO, gender and advocacy work would be an advantage.

General conditions:
The above post is for an initial period of two years, based in Maseru, Lesotho. A competitive remuneration package will be offered, commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidates.
