Publications and Productions Manager

Gender Links, a dynamic Southern African NGO based in Johannesburg that has programmes on the Southern African Gender Protocol Alliance; media; governance and justice invites applications for a publications and productions manager responsible for ensuring high quality outputs as well as running and marketing a physical and virtual resource centre of books, video and photographic materials.

Tasks
The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Proof read final written texts before these go to print.
  • Liaise with printers on delivery of books and materials.
  • Manage the physical and electronic storage and distribution of materials including through programme work, book fairs, exchanges with libraries and partner organisations.
  • Promote cost recovery through on line and physical sales and mutually beneficial arrangements with commercial publishers.
  • Store and catalogue existing visual and audio visual resources; train staff in these areas.
  • Improve, create and manage effective systems for ensuring proper ongoing archiving and retrieval of printed, visual and audio visual resources in the future.
  • Manage and promote a small reference library that is open to the public.

Skills required

  • Degree in social sciences; gender studies would be an advantage.
  • Track record of commitment to gender equality and diversity.
  • Video and photography skills; Basic Desk Top Publishing would be an advantage.
  • Excellent editing, proofing writing and presentation skills.
  • Excellent IT skills and knowledge of how to use this tool to disseminate information.
  • Excellent systems, library and cataloguing skills.

The contract will be for an initial two year period. A competitive remuneration package will be offered, commensurate with skills and experience.
